Research activities of the department cover a wide spectrum of modern inorganic technologies. Special emphasis is focused on basic research and solving problems connected with new types of energy sources and the development of new catalysts, photocatalysts or membranes. In addition, partnership with industry results in projects aimed at establishing waste-free technologies or disposal of outdated environmental harmful technologies, more efficient utilization of raw materials and the computer simulation of technological processes.

Every single of our activities follows several fundamental principles and the most important one is to achieve long term sustainable development.

According to interdisciplinary acpects of majority of our projects we closely cooperate with top domestic and abroad institutions. Longterm cooperation with industrail partners represents a guarantee state of art technologies and emphase practical utilization of results. For good experimental results in labaratories is mathematical modelling and simulations done by our theoretics rather indispensable.

Technical Electrochemistry

  • Research activities of the working group are primarily focused on application of electrochemistry in industrial practice and protection of environment.
  • The main solved topics are related to the question "hydrogen economy" and to the treatment of liquid solutions using electromembrane processes.
  • In addition the electrosynthesis of high value-added products is one of our main topics.

Photocatalytic Materials and Processes

  • The research is primarily focused on the development of n-type and p-type semiconductor materials for photoelectrosynthetic and photoelectrochemical reactions aimed at environmental protection and solar energy conversion.
  • It encompasses the synthesis of semiconductor materials, the construction and validation of photoreactors for purification processes in both aqueous and gaseous phases, and the final evaluation of devices for photocatalytic purification.

Catalytic and Membrane Processes

  • The focus of this research working group can be found in catalytic and separation processes.
  • Experimental activity is aimed at the preparation, characterization and testing of catalysts and membranes for gas separation, or to study the kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic reactions.
  • Another important part is the creation of software for simulation of some chemical-technological processes and new chemical technologies.

Heterogeneous Non-catalysed Reactions

  • The main activity of this group is more focused on applied research arising from cooperation with industrial partners.
  • It is based on the study of the kinetics of heterogeneous non-catalysed reactions, as an example decomposition of raw materials by mineral acids.
