The Department of Inorganic Technology (within the Faculty of Chemical Technology) has a long-standing tradition in the education of young specialists for the production of inorganic substances. Besides teaching, research activity is a significant part of its activities.

It consists of four branches, all of which have their origin in history. They deal with:

  • technical electrochemistry,
  • photocatalysis,
  • catalytic and membrane processes,
  • heterogeneous non-catalyzed reactions.

However, present topics of research are much wider and more extensive. New technological processes are studied, together with their impact on the environment and economic issues. The combination of theoretical lessons and modern research produces graduates with a high level of education. This level is rising all the time as a result of cooperation with many domestic and international universities, research institutes and industrial partners. The high level of education and flexibility of our graduates is proved by their successful careers which are not limited just to chemistry.

The department’s name expresses its aim, which is to prepare graduates for management roles in the production of inorganic substances. Students acquire a strong theoretical and practical knowledge of the procedures used in the production of these substances. Our graduates are familiar with important basic and specialised processes.

Applied theoretical courses form the core of the study program. Dissertation topics originate from the research activities of the department, as well as from cooperation with domestic and international partners from both industry and research institutions.

The broad range of optional subjects offered within the study programme enables our graduates to find positions not only in the chemical sphere, but also in other technical fields.

Research activities of the department cover a wide spectrum of modern inorganic technologies. Special emphasis is focused on basic research and solving problems connected with new types of energy sources and the development of new catalysts, photocatalysts or membranes. In addition, partnership with industry results in projects aimed at establishing waste-free technologies or disposal of outdated environmental harmful technologies, more efficient utilization of raw materials and the computer simulation of technological processes.

Every single of our activities follows several fundamental principles and the most important one is to achieve long term sustainable development.

According to interdisciplinary acpects of majority of our projects we closely cooperate with top domestic and abroad institutions. Longterm cooperation with industrail partners represents a guarantee state of art technologies and emphase practical utilization of results. For good experimental results in labaratories is mathematical modelling and simulations done by our theoretics rather indispensable.

Projects can be generally divided into the following main areas. Specific information can be found in the Research Workgroups.
